A 39 year old farmer in Sharon, MA, he enlisted as Private, Company D, 2nd Massachusetts Infantry on 4 August 1862.

On the Campaign

He died of disease at the Smoketown, MD hospital on 29 November 1862.

After the War

He was originally buried near the hospital but was reinterred in the new Antietam National Cemetery in about 1867.
