Age 27, he enlisted at White Lake on 24 January 1862 as Private, Company H, 97th New York Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was treated at a US Army hospital in Frederick, MD but died there of wounds on 7 October 1862. He was reinterred in the new National Cemetery in about 1867.
