From Marion County, he mustered as Private, Company D, 19th Indiana Infantry on 29 July 1861.

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded in action at Turner's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September 1862 and died the same day in Middletown, MD.

The rest of the War

He was reinterred from his original burial in Middletown to the new National Cemetery in about 1867.
