Before the Antietam Campaign:
He enlisted at Rochester, NY at age 25, and mustered in as Private, Company E, 108th New York Infantry on 28 July 1862.

In the Antietam Campaign:
He was mortally wounded in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.

The remainder of the War:
He died of wounds at Smokeetown Hospital, near Sharpsburg, on 18 October 1862.
