From Medina Township and County, OH, he enlisted in Company H, 8th Ohio Infantry at age 33 on 6 June 1861.

On the Campaign

He was admitted to a US Army hospital in Frederick, MD on 23 November 1862 with chronic diarrhea and died on 30 November 1862.

After the War

He was reinterred from his original burial (probably at Mt. Olivet Cemetery) in Frederick, MD to the new National Cemetery in about 1867.
