Before the Antietam Campaign:
He enlisted at age 19 in Company G, 61st New York Infantry on 10 September 1861.

In the Antietam Campaign:
He was mortally wounded - in both legs - in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.

The remainder of the War:
He died of wounds on 16 October 1862. Reinterred from his original burial in Frederick, MD to the National Cemetery in or before 1867.
