Before the Antietam Campaign:
He enlisted at age 19 in New York City, and mustered in as Private, Company C on 25 June 1861. He was wounded in action on 31 May 1862 at Fair Oaks, VA.

In the Antietam Campaign:
He was wounded, probably mortally, at Antietam on 17 September 1862.

The remainder of the War:
He died of wounds at Smoketown on 10 November 1862.
