Before the Antietam Campaign:
From Dallas, he enlisted in Company B, 8th Michigan Infantry on 14 August 1862 at age 22.

The remainder of the War:
He died of disease at Weaverton, MD and was originally buried in Sandy Hook. He was reinterred in the new National Cemetery during or before 1867.
