A 34 year old shoemaker he enlisted at Waterloo as Private, Company C, 33rd New York Infantry on 30 April 1861.

On the Campaign

He died of disease at Clear Spring, MD on 2 November 1862.

After the War

He was initially buried in Hagerstown and was reinterred at the new Antietam National Cemetery in about 1867.
