Age 18, he enlisted on 1 October 1861 at Saratoga Springs for three years and mustered as Private, Company I, 77th New York Infantry on 20 November.

On the Campaign

He died of disease at Hagerstown, MD on 19 (or 21) October 1862.

After the War

He was originally buried in Hagerstown but was reinterred in the new Antietam National Cemetery in about 1867.
