Before the Antietam Campaign: Commissioned First Lieutenant, Company K in April 1861 and Captain, Company C in July. Wounded in action 1 July 1862 at Malvern Hill, VA, captured and paroled 17 July. In the Antietam Campaign: He commanded the regiment as senior officer present. The remainder of the War: Promoted to Major of the regiment in November 1862. Mustered out at end of term of service 8 May 1863 in New York City. After the War: He applied to the Superior Court for New York County in 1864 for American citizenship.
