Age 26, from Armstrong County, he enlisted on 8 June 1861 and mustered as First Sergeant, Company G, 11th Pennsylvania Reserves in Washington, DC on 29 July.

On the Campaign

He was killed in action near Turner's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was originally buried in Burkittsville, MD but was reinterred in the new National Cemetery in about 1867.
