Before the Antietam Campaign:
Age 20, a bootmaker from Milford on enlistment in July 1861. He was in Company H. He was wounded in action at Ball's Bluff on 21 October 1861.

In the Antietam Campaign:
He was mortally wounded in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.

The remainder of the War:
He died on 21 October 1862 of his wounds and was buried in Frederick, MD. He was reinterred in the National Cemetery from Frederick about 1867.
