Before the Antietam Campaign:
He was 35 years old when he enlisted at New York City to serve three years, and mustered in as Private, Company K, 88th New York Infantry on 8 November 1861.

In the Antietam Campaign:
He was mortally wounded in action on 17 September 1862 at Antietam.

The remainder of the War:
He died of his wounds on 9 November 1862 in a hospital in Frederick, MD.
