Before the Antietam Campaign:
He enlisted at age 31 in New York City in Company F, 66th New York Infantry on 2 October 1861. He mustered as Corporal on 4 November 1861.

In the Antietam Campaign:
He was mortally wounded in action on 17 September 1862.

The remainder of the War:
He died of bis wounds on 3 November 1862 at Hospital No. 5, Antietam, MD. He was reinterred from his original burial in Frederick, MD to the new National Cemetery during or before 1867.
