Before the Antietam Campaign: Enlisted as Private in Company I, 15th NC Infantry on 15 July 1862 at age 34. In the Antietam Campaign: Killed in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862. The remainder of the War: Originally buried "on west side of Mayer's old graveyard." Probably reinterred at Hagerstown in about 1874.
