Originally enlisted as Private, then appointed Third Lieutenant, Company F, Third Infantry, from the Laurens District.

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He died of wounds on 17 October 1862. Originally buried "near fence above the Company House and among a lot of cedar bushes." Probably reinterred at Hagerstown in about 1874.
