Before Sharpsburg

A 22 year old merchant in Warren County, he mustered as Private, Company A, 14th North Carolina Infantry on 6 July 1861 at Camp Bragg, VA. He was promoted to Sergeant on 28 November 1861.

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September.

The rest of the War

He died of wounds on the S.H. Grove farm near Sharpsburg on 5 October 1862 and was originally buried there. He was probably reinterred in Hagerstown about 1871.
