Before Sharpsburg

A 16 year old farmer, he mustered as Private, Company H, 32nd Virginia Infantry on 27 May 1861 in Williamsburg. He was promoted to 2nd Corporal on 2 May 1862.

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862 and captured there.

The rest of the War

He died of wounds on 3 October 1862. He was originally buried "in Mayers' field in the hollow below Grove's house, towards the canal". Probably reinterred at Hagerstown in about 1874.
