Before the Antietam Campaign:
From Henrico County, he was in Company A, 15th Virginia Infantry.

In the Antietam Campaign:
He was mortally wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The remainder of the War:
He died of wounds on 23 September 1862. Originally buried "in Mayers' field in the hollow below Grove's house, towards the canal". Probably reinterred at Hagerstown in about 1874.
