He was wounded and captured in action at Crampton's Gap on 14 September.

The rest of the War

Admitted to USA Field Hospital Burkittsville, MD with severe wound of shoulder & hip. Died there 28 September 1862. Probably originally buried in Burkittsville, and reinterred at Hagerstown in about 1874.
