In the Antietam Campaign:
He was wounded and captured in action at Crampton's Gap on 14 September.

The remainder of the War:
Admitted to USA Field Hospital Burkittsville, MD with severe wound of shoulder & hip. Died there 09-28-1862. Probably origianlly buried in Burkittsville, and reinterred at Hagerstown in about 1874.
