He was killed in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September.

The remainder of the War:
Originally buried "in N.E. corner of Mrs. Lucker's [Locker's] house-field, commencing at an old road and running along the southern edge of woods" on the battlefield at Sharpsburg. Probably reinterred at Hagerstown in about 1874.
