Before the Antietam Campaign:
Junior 2nd Lieutenant, Company E, 6th Alabama Infantry.

In the Antietam Campaign:
He was mortally wounded in action on South Mountain on 14 September and captured there.

The remainder of the War:
He died on 19 September 1862 and was originally buried "in Mrs. Hoffman's barn field near Boonsboro, 150 yards N. W. of the barn". Probably reinterred at Hagerstown in about 1874.
