He enlisted in the 7th Virginia Infantry, date and Company assignment not known.
On the Campaign
He was mortally wounded and captured in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September.
The rest of the War
He died in 1862 at a field hospital on Henry Reel's farm. Originally buried "in H. Reel's field west of his orchard along a stone wall" on the battlefield at Sharpsburg. Probably reinterred at Hagerstown in about 1874.
