Before the Antietam Campaign:
He was a 20 year old unmarried clerk in New Orleans when he enlisted in Company E of the 6th Louisiana Infantry in June 1861.

In the Antietam Campaign:
He was mortally wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September.

The remainder of the War:
Originally buried "East of J. C. Grove's warehouse, on hill near a new house" on the battlefield at Sharpsburg. Probably reinterred at Hagerstown in about 1874.
