He enlisted as Private in Company C, 10th Georgia Infantry on 18 May 1861.

In the Antietam Campaign:
He was mortally wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September.

The remainder of the War:
He died in November 1862. Originally buried "in Rev. J. J. Adams town lot, back of the M. E. Graveyard" in the town of Sharpsburg. Probably reinterred at Hagerstown in about 1874.
