Before the Antietam Campaign:
He enlisted as Private in Company F, 10th Georgia Infantry on 11 May 1861.

In the Antietam Campaign:
He was mortally wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September.

The remainder of the War:
He died from wounds at Lavinia Grove's Farm. Originally buried on the field at Sharpsburg near "Mrs. Lucker's" [Locker] barn. Probably reinterred at Hagerstown in about 1874.
