Before the Antietam Campaign:
He enlisted as 4th Corporal, Company G, 19th Georgia Infantry on 2 July 1861. Appointed 4th Sergeant July 1862.

In the Antietam Campaign:
He was wounded and captured in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The remainder of the War:
Paroled September 30, 1862. Admitted to U. S. A. General Hospital #5, at Frederick, Maryland October 15, 1862, where left thigh was amputated. Died October 28, 1862. Originally buried "on west side of and in the cemetery at Frederick." Probably reinterred at Hagerstown in about 1874.
