Before the Antietam Campaign: He enlisted as 4th Corporal, Company G, 19th Georgia Infantry on 2 July 1861. Appointed 4th Sergeant July 1862. In the Antietam Campaign: He was wounded and captured in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862. The remainder of the War: Paroled September 30, 1862. Admitted to U. S. A. General Hospital #5, at Frederick, Maryland October 15, 1862, where left thigh was amputated. Died October 28, 1862. Originally buried "on west side of and in the cemetery at Frederick."
