Before Sharpsburg

He enlisted in Company I, Third Infantry on 14 April 1861 and mustered into Confederate service on 6 June 1861 at Columbia, SC. He reenlisted on 13 May 1862.

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862, losing a leg.

The rest of the War

He died of wounds in Frederick, MD on 2 May 1863. Originally buried "on west side of cemetery at Frederick." Probably reinterred at Hagerstown in about 1874.
