Before the Antietam Campaign: Appointed 4th Corporal, Company A (original Company F) on 18 April 1862. In the Antietam Campaign: Mortally wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862. The remainder of the War: Died of wounds "at Lavina Grove's Farm". Originally buried "in N.E. corner of Mrs. Lucker's house-field" on the battlefield at Sharpsburg.
