A farmer in Claiborne Parish, he enrolled as 2nd Lieutenant, Company A, 9th Louisiana Infantry on 7 July 1861. Elected First Lieutenant on 5 September 1861. Promoted Captain (date?).

In the Antietam Campaign:
He was killed in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
