Before the Antietam Campaign:
He was a resident of New Orleans, age 44, and married when he enrolled June 4, 1861, at Camp Moore, LA as Captain, Company F, 6th Louisiana Infantry. He was captured at Strasburg. VA on 2 June 1862, sent to the Old Capitol Prison, Washington, DC on 26 July, and to Ft. Monroe, VA on 1 August. He was exchanged at Aikens Landing, VA on 5 August 1862. Promoted to Major to date from 27 June 1862.

In the Antietam Campaign:
He may have been present in Maryland. He was promoted Lieutenant Colonel to date from 17 September 1862.

The remainder of the War:
Promoted Colonel on 7 November 1862. Killed in action on 29 August 1864.
