In the Antietam Campaign:
He was wounded and captured in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The remainder of the War:
Died of wounds in US Army General Hospital at Frederick, Maryland. Originally buried "along the west side and in cemetery at Frederick [Maryland]". Probably reinterred at Hagerstown in about 1874.
