He is on the muster roll for Company G, 6th Alabama Infantry in March 1862. He was in Company A (by transfer or reorganization) by September 1862.

He was mortally wounded and captured in action on South Mountain on 14 September 1862.

He died in a US Army field hospital at Boonsboro, MD on 16 September 1862

He was originally buried in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Frederick, MD but was probably later removed to his current location.
