Before the Antietam Campaign:
He enlisted 1 March 1862 as Private in the Brooks Artillery.

In the Antietam Campaign:
He was wounded in action on 17 September 1862 at Sharpsburg.

The remainder of the War:
He was sent to Chimborazo Hospital, Richmond on October 4, 1862. He was again wounded and captured in action at Gettysburg, PA on July 5, 1863, sent to Chester General Hospital, Chester, PA, then to City Point, VA., August 17, 1863, presumambly for exchange. He re-enlisted at Beams Station, TN, December 28, 1863, and was promoted to Corporal on March 1, 1864. He died July 6, 1864 at the 1st Division Hospital, Richmond, VA.
