Before the Antietam Campaign:
Freom Schuylkill Haven, he enlisted in Company I as First Sergeant on 15 August 1861.

The remainder of the War:
Promoted to 2nd Lieutenant in September 1863 and First Lieutenant in March 1864. He was mortally wounded in action near Petersburg on 17 June 1864 and died 2 July at Mt. Pleasant U.S. General Hospital.
