Before Sharpsburg

A 25 year old clerk in the Sheriff's Office in New Orleans, he was commissioned First Lieutenant, Company I, 10th Louisiana Infantry at Camp Moore, LA on 22 July 1861. He was promoted to Captain on 17 January 1862.

On the Campaign

He commanded the regiment as senior officer present at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was appointed Major on 29 January 1863 was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel on 3 May 1863. He was paroled at Lynchburg, VA 14 April 1865.

After the War

He returned to New Orleans and the Sheriff's Office, and was later clerk in the Tax Collector's Office then Deputy Collector.
