Before the Antietam Campaign:
Before the War he was a dealer in "'Groceries, Hardware and Plantation Supplies". He was appointed 1st Lieutenant, Company K, 13th Georgia Infantry on its organization, 8 July 1861.

In the Antietam Campaign:
Probably in command of the Regiment on 17 September 1862 at Sharpsburg.

The remainder of the War:
Elected Captain on 13 December 1862. Killed in action at Fort Steadman, near Petersburg, Virginia March 25, 1865.
