Before Antietam

Age 29, a shoemaker from Boylestown, he enlisted in Company D, 15th Massachusetts Infantry on 1 July 1861.

On the Campaign

He was initially reported missing in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862, but was actually captured there.

The rest of the War

He was a prisoner in Richmond, then a paroled prisoner in the camp at Annapolis, MD by 15 October 1862, but deserted on 1 May 1863 from Falmouth, VA.

He enlisted again, on 9 January 1864, as a Private in the 3rd Massachusetts Heavy Artillery under the name Andrew Barney. He was mortally wounded, data and place not given, and died on 2 June 1864 at Fortress Monroe, VA.
