Age 21, a shoemaker from Oxford on enlistment as Sergeant in July 1861. Promoted 2nd Lieutenant 22 February 1862, and 1st Lieutenant on 18 September 1862. He was in Company E.

The rest of the War

Appointed Captain on 14 November. Wounded in action at Gettysburg on 2 July 1863, and again in action in May 1864.
