Before the Antietam Campaign: Age 30, a wheelwright from Brookfield on enlistment as Corporal in July 1861. Promoted Sergeant in Narch 1862. He was in Company F. In the Antietam Campaign: First Sergeant at Antietam, he was wounded in action on 17 September 1862. The remainder of the War: Commissioned 2nd Lieutenant 19 September 1862, First Lieutenant 8 January 1863 (not mustered at that rank). Discharged fo wounds 20 April 1863.
