Before the Antietam Campaign: Age 22, farmer from North Brookfield on enlistment in July 1861. Promoted to Sergeant 24 July 1862. He was in Company F. In the Antietam Campaign: He was wounded in action on 17 September 1862. The remainder of the War: Promoted First Sergeant 20 September and commissioned 2nd Lieutenant 8 January 1863.
