Before the Antietam Campaign:
Age 29, shoemaker from Grafton on enlistment as First Sergeant in July 1861. He was in Company G.

In the Antietam Campaign:
He was wounded in action on 17 September 1862.

The remainder of the War:
Commissioned 2nd Lieutenant 18 September 1862, First Lieutenant on 3 January 1863, but declined that rank, Discharged on disability in January 1864 as 2nd Lieutenant.
