Age 27, he was a carpenter from Grafton on enlistment on 30 July 1862 in Company G, 15th Massachusetts Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded in the right thigh in action on 17 September 1862 at Antietam.

The rest of the War

He was treated at the Hoffman Farm Hospital, Sharpsburg, and at Camp Curtin, Harrisburg, PA. He died of wounds on 15 November 1862.
