Before the Antietam Campaign: Age 26, a clerk from Boston when commissioned 2nd Lieutenant, Company H, on 19 April 1861. Promoted First Lieutenant on 22 November 1861 and Captain, Company C, 6 August 1862. In the Antietam Campaign: He was killed in action on 17 September 1862. The remainder of the War: Originally buried near the battlefield, he was reinterred sometime later in Massachusetts.
