Before the Antietam Campaign:
Age 38, a stonecutter from Northbridge when commissioned Captain, Company H, on 25 May 1861. Promoted Major 29 April 1862.

The remainder of the War:
Appointed Lieutenant Colonel of the Regiment on 13 Novemebr 1862. Wounded in action at Fredericksburg, VA on 13 December 1862, and discharged on disability 16 April 1863.

After the War:
He was city marshal in Lawrence, Massachusetts.
