He enlisted March 4, 1861, as a Corporal in Company B, 13th Mass. Infantry. W

In the Antietam Campaign:
Wounded in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.

The remainder of the War:
He mustered out of the 13th Infantry on October 22, 1862 - discharged for wounds - at Harrisburg, PA. Commissioned 1st Lt. 7th Mass. Heavy Artillery, promoted Capt. Company C, 3rd Mass. Heavy Artillery. Mustered out Sept. 18, 1865.
