Before the Antietam Campaign:
From Carunna, MI, he enlisted in Company E, 6th Wisconsin Infantry on 22 June 1861.

In the Antietam Campaign:
He was mortally wounded in the left knee in action on 17 September 1862.

The remainder of the War:
He was taken to the Academy Hospital in Chambersburg, PA and died of there of his Antietam wound on 19 June 1863.
