Before Sharpsburg
Going by Henry, in 1860 he was a 17 year old living with his parents and 6 siblings on their small farm in Wake County, NC. He was conscripted in Raleigh, NC on 15 July 1862 and mustered as a Private in Company I, 3rd North Carolina Infantry.
On the Campaign
He was sent to a hospital in Frederick, MD on 10 September, left behind, and captured there.
The rest of the War
He was in US Army General Hospital #1 in Frederick, MD to 19 September then a prisoner at Fort Delaware to 2 October, when was sent to Aikens' Landing, VA for exchange. He was formally exchanged on 10 November 1862. He was in a hospital in Lynchburg, VA in December 1862 but was back with his company by the end of the month.
He was wounded at Gettysburg, PA on 2 July 1863 and died in a field hospital there of wounds on 7 July.
His father Tyrell field a claim for his final pay in May 1864.
