He was a carpenter in his 20's at the 1860 census of Forsyth County. He was Captain of Company K, as they enlisted at Winston 11 June 1861. He may have been promoted (but not commissioned) Major in the regiment prior to Sharpsburg1.
In the Antietam Campaign:
He was at Harpers Ferry, and killed at Sharpsburg on the 17th while in command of the Regiment as senior officer present.
